Venice girl advances for national award

Stevie P. of Venice is among the 100 semifinalists for a spot in the Energizer Keep Going Hall of Fame.

Stevie, a Pine View student, started Project KINDNESS to support a school devastated by Hurricane Charley. Since 2004, she has supplied the students at Memorial Elementary School with backpacks, school supplies and holiday presents.

Stevie also volunteers to read to the kindergartners and collects toys for All Children's Hospital. She is president of a service club called PEACE (People Encouraging A Caring Environment), an active Girl Scout and she maintains a straight-A average.

The Energizer Keep Going Hall of Fame was created in 2006 as a way to share the inspiring stories of people who live every day with the same spirit as the Energizer Bunny.

The 100 semifinalists will now be entered into a second judging phase and narrowed to a pool of ten finalists. One winner will be chosen from the ten finalists by a public vote via the Web at www.energizer.com/halloffame. Voting will begin June 15.

Each vote will trigger a donation to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. Based on the online voting, one finalist will be honored as the 2007 inductee into the hall of fame.

The winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize plus $5,000 donated to their favorite charity. They will be honored at an induction ceremony on Sept. 6 in St. Louis. Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and inaugural member of the Keep Going Hall of Fame, Cal Ripken Jr. will also be on hand for the celebration.
